    Overhauling the planning system

Last year, the Minister for Planning appointed an advisory committee to review the planning system in Victoria.

There are likely to be major reforms over the next couple of years to the extent that the entire system may be overhauled. It remains to be seen whether the changes will make for easier approval of developments or give greater rights to objectors.

    Watch this space.

It will also be interested to see if there are more claims of "vested interests" getting preferential planning outcomes...

Changes to the relative rights of owners and objectors could have a flow on effect for all of us. Allowing easier development could help developers better tackle the housing shortage we currently experience, however it could put pressure on housing prices to fall. Should it be made more difficult to gain planning approval, house prices could rebound upwards.

We should have smarter regulation, not more regulation

Victoria has dropped in real estate prices because of new Government policies.
